Lay The Ratings

Hello Everyone, I am running this test of Lay The Ratings from Gordon Charles. For a monthly payment, Gordon will send the selections to you, otherwise there is there is a twenty-nine page e-book, to show how to obtain the selections, with a number of examples to show how they are obtained.

A size of bank is not recommended in the e-book, and for the purpose of the test, I am going to assume that one point equals £10.

There is a staking plan within the e-book, and Gordon has asked if level stakes can be shown as a comparison, which I am more than happy to do.

I will show the results with the early prices (from when the e-mail is received), and at two minutes from the off.

Anyway, onto todays results:

Selections: 4 (one turned into a non runner)
Winners: 2
Losers: 1

To Staking Plan:
Loss at Early Prices: -£42.06
Loss at 2′ to off: -£37.86

To Level Stakes:
Loss at Early Prices: -£5.00
Profit at 2′ to off: £4.40

Why the differences?  The staking plan reduces the stake with higher prices, and the third selection reduced in price.

1000 Points A Year

For the next month, I’ll be testing the 1000 Points A Year system.

This system indicates profits in excess of 1000 points for the past three years (2007: 1277.67 points; 2008: 1224.41 points; and 2009: 1073.20 points) – whatever way you look at it, that adds up to some serious profits!

Basically this system revolves around a combination of courses, trainers and jockeys to bet on. The system is supplied as a Word document containing two tables – one for National Hunt racing; the other for Flat racing.

To select your bets, you refer to the tables and read them in conjunction with the day’s racecards. You can use any newspaper or online resource as only the course, trainer and jockey name are required. Picking the selections is very straightforward and should take no time at all.

However, if you are lazy or want to ensure that you have selected the same horses as the author, you can use a lo-call telephone number to get the day’s selections. 3 month’s subscription is included in the purchase price of the system.

To maximise your returns, the author suggests either taking early prices or Betfair Starting Prices (BSP). Bets are placed at level stakes and, for the trial, I will be betting with £25 stakes and a starting bank of £1000. Results will be recorded at BSP.

Results for Tuesday 23rd February
No selections today.

gamekeeper turned poacher

due to the poor weather giving a lack of selections, I am going to give this another month, starting on 1st March.

The system itself is rather ambiguous on some rules, so all selections will be obtained from the low cost phone line, updated daily.

Project Betfair

I have been deliberating for a long time how to review this, and feel a one-off review is sufficient.

I took an instant dislike to it due to the flashy website and promise of £100′s a week for hardly any work. I am sure we have all seen this kind of thing many times, so I did not expect much.

The ebook is a 60 page pdf manual, with many pages given over to how to read the racing post, what betfair is, other exchanges, and the ‘system’ itself. It is basically looking for horses to lay in the win or place market, on handicap races, if certain primary conditions are met. We then look at more filters to decide if the horse is a lay.

My initial reaction was of a system back-fitted on results to get the system rules! This, coupled with no website to check your selections against also points to a system quickly put together and mass marketed.

So, I proposed a negative review to start with, however, I have decided to give it a neutral rating as although I feel the system is back-fitted, the book will actually be a very good introduction to a begginner. It goes into detail of how to use the racing post, what the race card means, for example, what ‘C’ and ‘D’ mean after a horse on the cards – this might be very basic, but for someone not used to it, the explanation is in very simple terms.

The explanation of betfair and exchanges is also done in the most basic of terms, what decimal odds are, etc etc.

I assume anyone reading this blog will have experience of both the racing post and exchanges, so it would not be of use to any readers, however, if you have never ever used these websites, then get it for a basic guide.
