The day’s bets get partially put up on their blog after the email goes out. The exact details of the bet are obviously kept hidden but you do get to see which competition the game is in.

I’m a little confused about today’s email. We receive an email each day and when there is a bet advised the mail starts by saying “Bet A” and then gives details of the bet. Well today the email started by saying “Bet B” and gave the Arsenal v Man Utd details. I went over to his blog to check that yesterday’s loss had been registered correctly (it had) and noticed that there were 2 separate “Private Picks” listed whereas I had only been supplied with 1.

The bets have now been made public and they are both the same, Man Utd (+0).

I had already emailed the owners this morning to ask if I had missed out on a selection email and have not heard back yet, but I then scrolled back through the previous results and the last 2 times that there was been a losing bet the following day’s bet appeared twice. This strongly suggests that when Bet B is advised you are to double the stake in order to recover the previous loss. It cannot be any attempt to make profits look more impressive as it clearly states all details of the bets and they are identical.

I have been back through everything I have received since starting the trial and can find no instructions about doubling up after a loss. I had previously assumed that Bet A was quoted in emails for the benefit of days when there was more than one selection.

So I’ll report back when I hear from the owner about the double bets but will leave our rolling totals the same as I’m sure all new members to his service would have been as in the dark as I was.

Bet Mentor

I have been told by one of our readers (thanks Matt) that he has been advised by the tipster that bets should be 10% of starting bank. As usual I had emailed the owner with a question just to make sure you get a response but I had only asked about timing of the bets.

Yesterday’s bet was another PUSH and was very unlucky as the goal that foiled the bet came in injury time at the end of the game. Again, I found a bookie on oddschecker offering higher than the price advised in his email.

Inter (-1) v Genoa @ 1.69 (188Bet) = PUSH (stake returned)

STARTING BANK £100

CURRENT BANK £109.70

Bet Mentor

RUNNING P/L +£9.70

Espanol (-1) v Mirandes £10 @ 1.80.  PUSH (no profit or loss)

RUNNING P/L +£9.70

Bit strange today as the bet arrived this morning with a list of bookmakers offering “best price” of 1.69. When I’m reviewing a tipster service I always go straight to oddschecker.com as soon as the email arrives and today I found that Ladbrokes were offering 1.80 for the advised bet. It wasn’t short term either, the price was still there mid-afternoon.

The reults listed on his blog do appear to be genuine in that all the previous ones listed do seem to match the style of bet I’ve received so far (only 2 I know) and today’s selection is partially put on the blog before kick off. When I looked earlier it had today’s listed as 17/1/12 Member’s Tip Spain, Copa Del Rey, which is what the selection today dealt with.

So I’m a little confused here. On the one hand we have a tipster understating the best price available and seeming to be keeping an honest and open record of his bets which seem to be doing quite well and on the other hand we have the sales page of the website which is rather off-putting with some spurious looking screenshots and when you try to leave the site it does that old Columbo trick of “Umm.. Just One More Thing…”, that usually has me quite worried.

I’m looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.

Bet Mentor

I’m going to be recording results for the Bet Mentor service.

Looking at the claimed previous results it appears that there are only ever one or two tips a day, so it looks to be targetted rather than a scattergun type approach.

The sign-up fee is £37 (+vat) for a year’s worth of tips and there is a 60 day money back guarantee (clickbank) if not satisfied.

All bets are Asian Handicap Markets and are delivered via email. I’ve said before on trials that I really don’t like Handicap bets but I’m willing to be converted and if this service lives up to the claims on the sales page then I’ll be more than happy to change my ways. They claim an 87% strike rate and Return On Investment of around 50% per month, so we shall see how close to those figures we can get during the trial.

There’s no real advice on bank size or points to stake but they do say that you can start off with as little as £10 bets and build from there, so that’s what I’ll be doing.

I received my first tip today and I’m pleased to say that the price advised in the email was easily available with several big online bookmakers.

And a nice winning start it was too :

Ath Bilbao -1 @ 1.97 WON +9.70

RUNNING P/L +£9.70

Betting Pros

Time for an update on this service.

A breakdown from the start of this season (August):

Average stake = 168 points
Avg profit per month = 138 points

Total Profit = 690 points

Now, bear in mind that whilst this sounds like a lot, the average stake is 168 points so if you convert that to 1 point per bet (which is what tells us how profitable a method is), that works out to be only 4.1 actual points profit this season and an average profit per month of  0.82 of a point.

I asked them about this and their response was as follows:

“I understand what your saying but starting with a 1000 point bank the profit is 690 points and I believe the ROI is around 5-6% which by professional gambling stakes would be very acceptable.

So in effect the bank has increased by 69% in 5 months which is not a bad state of affairs.

The service has always been this way and the fact is it makes profits and many systems betting to 1 point require very large banks to be succesfull, if you were betting 1 point per bet using my service you would need a bank of 10 points… given the cost of my service anyone can start with a small bank and over the course still make a good profit and start compounding after each month.”

That is actually a very good point. A 10 point starting bank is indeed very low and a 69% return in 5 months is very good by normal standards.

At present they charge £5.49 per month but what they are currently offering is a subscription for 5 months until the end of May for only £19.99.

I think for twenty quid and a ten point bank you really can’t go far wrong with this service.

Betfair Success Formula

It’s time to wrap this trial up and give my final verdict.

The idea behind this system is to place two bets before kick off on two separate markets with one acting as an insurance policy if the other gets into trouble, you then close all open trades at half time. It’s a decent idea in theory but it does not live up to expectations in real life situations.

I made a comment not long into the trial and the results since then have confirmed my feelings at the time, the insurance bet costs you too much money when things go right and does not provide enough cover if they go wrong.

This is not a unique method. Not long after I started the trial, one of my fellow bloggers pointed out that he had an almost identical system that dates from several years before this one. I also had the feeling that I’d seen something similar before and on opening up an ancient file on an old P.C. I found I had a copy of the same method dated 2005. Both these older versions were better written and had more sensible get out strategies, although they did suffer from the same market failings as this one.

I do also have some issues of concern about the way this e-book is written. Other than an odds range, there’s no real match selection criteria given. The book is pretty much just a series of screenshots showing successful trades and makes many references to the fact that the profit figures shown are for just $30 stakes and just imagine how much you could make with $300 trades. The problem is that there’s relatively little liquidity in the insurance bet’s market. Even in the bigger leagues the pre-kick off matched figure is often around or below the £1000 mark.

It’s not all bad news. I did make a profit while using the system exactly as it’s written and it has prompted me to get my thinking cap on and come up with a twist on it that I can play around with and improve further.

So on the positive side we have the fact that I did actually make a profit using it exactly as it’s written, it’s pretty quick and simple to understand and it’s unlikely to totally blow your bank. On the negative side we have an old method, no real selection criteria, limited liquidity, the insurance leaves a shortfall if you run into trouble, a fairly high purchase price and no refunds offered.

I think a rating of NEUTRAL is about right for this system. The fact that I did make a profit even though I ran into trouble on a few bets is enough to save it from an outright Failed listing but there are significant negatives that mean it’s not close to Approved, the biggest gripe is that the purchase price is quite high and there is a no refunds policy which is a big problem if you buy this then find out that you already have the same method from a previous product.
