Following my first post on Beat The Market I’ve had some feedback from the programme owner that I think is worth commenting on here. Firstly, the website at Beat The Market does not provide monthly performance results as he believes that users are discouraged when (and of course this does happen) there is a loss in a specific month. The point made though is that if the market is down 10% on the month and Beat The Market is down just 5% over the same period then the actual system performance has been good. And I agree that this approach should be the way investors need to view any system performance.
Secondly, the point was made that no stock is chosen because a dividend payment is due and performance figures do not include any of these figures. I was perhaps a little unclear on this point in my post so am glad to make clear that dividend payments are an additional return that do not figure in the reported returns for any individual stock.
So, on to the weeks performance. Things have been fairly quiet since I made the initial report and the current balance on the account has decreased by $146.90. The performance mirrors the weakness in the S&P 500 over the recent period as trading has been fairly light. As the main holiday season is coming to an end I’m expecting things to become busier soon.

What you miss, dear reader, is the outline not only to the tips formally given but opinions on others that are likely to win but he feels would be “non value” odds. These often win
We also get information on previous selections if thought pertinent.
This afternoon in the Open Meeting at Monmore, we were given 2 selections
4.37 Trap 1 with a bet of 5 points to win at 2/1
The dog brought home the bacon at an SP of 6/4. So our advised profit 10 more points
In the 4.57 Trap 3 bet 4 points to win at 13/8
It won at Evens, the profit is 6 1/2 points, total 16 1/2 on the day.
An impressive 45 1/2 for the month to date, with 6 winning dogs out of the last seven advised (plus a couple of odds on winners advised informally and not included here.
Now , do we keep our money in our pocket or get on for the ride……………

When I read we were to be a lumpy 8 points on a greyhound tonight I cringed.
it was advised at 6/4 and I could get that price still an hour later
It was in the 3.07p.m. (afternoon) at Monmore,, Trap No 1.
It won at odds on 4/6 but we got a 12 point addition to our profit
Then in the 4.27 we were to spend another 4 points on Trap 2 at 3/1
Could only get 5/2 on this and it went off at 2/1
But the advised price gave us a further 12 points profit as this selection also won.
That is 24 points on the day after a run of 4 consecutive winners following the bad patch prior to them.
There are no selections for 20th August so there will not be a post for that day

This weeks results have done little to restore profits seen in the early weeks of testing. On the football front a lone win is the only small light in the tunnel. Also, in golf at the Wyndham tournament results have not gone our way. Only one of our top 10 selections made it and from the 72 hole match ups there were just two wins. The result of the weeks selections means that our bank slips further into the red.

As I never received any weekend football selections I assume none were issued, it would be useful if a message to tell members there wouldn’t be any selections was sent so that it was clear not to expect anything. This is a general point about the service, I do feel that notifications are a little hit and miss and response times to issues raised do take some time to be answered. This is an annoyance more than anything but it does reflect on the perception of professionalism the service offers.

Our bet tonight is 4 points on trap 5 in the 8.30 at Henlow, advised price 4/1 (ISP5/2)
The dog won so we get 16 points which with our last success brings us into profit for the month.
In passing he mentioned he thought a dog named Landing was a likely winner but at an unaatractive price, so no bet. It did win at 4/5 industry price but will not count towards our P/L account
