The Catalyst Horse Racing system

Ok, so I’m taking a look at the Catalyst Horse Racing system.

This is a system that has some very bold claims (don’t they all), indicating that you could “turn £100 INTO £51,200 TAX FREE IN JUST 9 MONTHS”.

Wow, that sounds pretty amazing.  Further on it says this is possible only if you are completely disciplined and follow the rules precisely.

So what do you get.  Well, you get a PDF with the details of the rules.  It is fairly short, but sufficiently detailed to spell out the rules for the race selections. This is a cheap product so there are no bells and whistles, but that said, sometimes less is more.

Ok, so how does it work. Well first impressions are that this is a fairly old product. That isn’t to say it isn’t going to work, just that it has been around for a while.  To start with, you have to get up, go out of your house and physically walk down to the shops (or drive if your legs really don’t work that well), and actually buy a newspaper.  Crikey, do they still exist in this modern day and age? Apparently so… They even still list all the horse racing…

So, you have to go and get a newspaper, specifically the Mirror (although there are options for a couple of other papers if you prefer). I tried to do this using just the internet and it wasn’t possible. So first off, if you are not happy having to go and get the newspaper, then this isn’t for you.

Once you have the paper, you then follow a series of rules to rate each race with a points value according to a particular criteria. Once you have rated all the races, you then filter out the races that don’t qualify and finally place the appropriate bets on the selected horses (you place 2 bets per selected race).  It sounds like a lot of work but actually it is pretty simple.  My first day today took about 10 minutes to rate all 34 races that were listed in the Mirror. So actually it is fairly simple and quick.

Today I didn’t have any selections. The pdf says that is likely to happen, and that you can go a few days without a race and you might have a day when there are 1 or 2 matching races. It says the majority of selections are on Saturdays or big mid-week meetings.  If you get more than 4 selections on any one day then you just limit yourself to the top 4 races (according to their rating).

So that’s about it. I’m not planning on testing this religously every day as if today as a good example of a regular weekday, there were no selections! So, waiting for bigger race meets or Saturdays is likely to be better.  I’ll post results as and when I take the bets.

Russell Gibbs

February was a losing month on the backing side with a loss of 13.5 points but this was mitigated by a profit of £820 to £100 lay liabilities on the laying side helped with some odds on selections.

March was better for the backing side with a profit of 16.2 points and a profit of £235 on the lay side.

NOTE TO TRADERS: It is worth noting that a large percentage of Win and Each way bets shorten in price leaving many opportunities to ARB. This will appeal to the traders among you.

BET ALCHEMIST – Month#3 , Final Review

Well another month has rolled up and I figure it is time I give my verdict on the tipping service offered by the BetAlchemist.

From the last posting on 8th March, there have been 41 selections resulting in a profit of 4.6 pts.

On balance though, I am going to suggest that this service is given an APPROVED rating on the merits of its’ results achieved during the Cheltenham festival, which I am sure you will agree, are astonishing!

The Grand National

Of course finding a National winner isn’t easy and if I do I will pay my dues to luck as much as judgement.

I like a bit of originality in our formulaic modern world and I have been racking my (small) brain to think of something to say about The Grand National that hasn’t already been said but I have been banging my head against a stone wall which coincidentally is what the horses had to jump over in the early days of the race when it was known as The Grand Liverpool Steeplechase.

I did hear something original this week. I asked my 5 year old daughter who would win and she said “a unicorn daddy”.

She is seriously lucky so I had a look and couldn’t find it on oddschecker. I did try telling her that Sprinter Sacre isn’t running in The National but she knows as much about him as I do unicorns.

The race is famous because your Granny might tell you the winner or your Uncle Peter, or the wife’s chiropodist.

Most people will have an opinion come race day and one of them will tell you the winning name before the race is run rendering our faces red and the hours of research pointless.

I originally wanted to do a piece about the history of the race but there really isn’t enough internet left to go through even the stand out stories so I have decided to try and find the winner instead.

My thinking is that if I pick the winner I will be a tipping guru who has unraveled one of the hardest puzzles of them all. If I lose I will be like millions of others except the wife’s chiropodist who I will be following in next year.

Anyone with a passing interest in the most valuable jumps race in the world will have noticed a few glaring nuances of the race.

It is long……very very long

And the obstacles are big……very very big.

This may seem obvious but it gives us our two biggest pointers in the search for a winner.

The horse must be a great jumper and have bags and bags of stamina.

The fences have been modified over the last few years to be safer but it must still be a nerve racking experience for horse and jockey.

We can scour the trends for hours for clues so we need to start eliminating a few nags who have forlorn hopes of even getting round.

If you haven’t won over 3 mile you can almost always forget it.

If you are too old or too young your luck will be out.

This leaves us with surprisingly few to choose from.

It also helps if our horse is comfortable in big fields.

I could go into more detail about the elimination process but that is for another day, for now I will list my picks and the main reason I picked them.

Teaforthree

This horse ticks all of the boxes. An excellent win at 4 miles along with a 2nd place in the Welsh National means Stamina should not be an issue.
He is also a superb jumper who seems to enjoy large fences.

Across The Bay

Beat fancied Cappa Bleu.
Doesn’t mind big fields and is a good jumper. With a bit of improvement this horse could take a place or better at a nice price.

Chicago Grey

Another one with form at 4 miles. Runs well on all types of ground and should have the stamina to pass a few on the run in. Needs to prove himself in a big field.

I also have a shortlist that I can’t narrow down so might resort to a game of stick the pin on the horse with my aforementioned daughter.

Imperial Commander

Would like to see this former Gold Cup winner do it. He is the classiest beast in the race.

Sunnyhillboy

Unlucky last year and could go one better this time.

Balthazar King

Good ground should bring out the best in him. He attacks jumps well and enjoys his trade.

I am sure that every single one of you will be having a bet on The Grand National and I would like to wish you all luck but we can’t all win so winner or not enjoy one of the greatest spectacles in sport.

Winning Racing System – Review after 180 days

WRS  suffered a losing 30 day period: down 3.06 pts.

After 180 days of monitoring this service, the bank stands at 158.2 pts using level stakes.   The starting bank at day 1 was 160 points.

The service is has lost 1.8 pts overall to level stakes.

 

The number of winning 30 day periods is  2 out of 6.

The number of losing 30 day periods is  4 out of 6.

 

The Two year old component of WRS has been modified and begins again this month, so I have decided to continue the review.

Aside from Cheltenham, the other tips/selections advised since the start of the review are not doing quite so well with the current balance standing as it does at -3.0 pts, to advised prices.
However, perhaps this a seasonal blip given the pi** poor weather conditions we have been experiencing of late.

This weekend there is top class action at Fairyhouse with the Grade 1 Powers Gold Cup and the Irish Grand National and the Doncaster Lincoln too.  I suspect the Betalchemist will once again be working his magic this forthcoming Easter weekend so if you want to see what potentially profitable ‘gems’ he has to impart – you know what to do….!

PAWS – update after 210 days

PAWS experienced a losing 30 day period: down 4.86 pts.

After 180 days of monitoring this service, the bank now stands at 165.43 pts .  The starting bank at day 1 was 100 points.

The service remains in profit by 65.43  pts.

National Hunt Naps

Poor weather continues to plague this system. The 2 month trial has ended without a single selection this week, but also we draw close to the official end of the National Hunt season.

In 8 weeks we have only managed 23 selections from the race meetings that survived the weather. This is a statistically poor sample from which to extrapolate any conclusions.  If this system was in profit I would not be comfortable approving the system, and so, for the same reasons, I cannot disapprove it either if it was in loss.

I feel the best way to approach this is not to rate it all and schedule a retest at the start of the next season in October. If any rating must be applied then it has to be Neutral.

It follows that there is little point in discussing the results data. For those of you reading this who have bought the system, there appears to be a slight leaning towards using early-bird prices rather than SP; but take heed of the “not enough data” warning here too.
