National Hunt Naps

We’re starting a new review on an interesting looking backing system from Betfan. National Hunt Naps boasts some good profit figures for, you guessed it, the National Hunt season.

This system targets the race rather than the horse and you simply back the favourite in very specific races. The system basically shows you how to determine those races.

Finding qualifying races shouldn’t take more than a few minutes each day.

You’re advised to start with a 50 point bank and bet 1 point of a rolling bank on each selection, so you are effectivly betting to 2% of bank, however the below results are to 1 point level stakes.

Results for this season so far, from 2nd October up to 5th January 2013 show a profit of 25.86 points, or just over 51% profit on a 50 point bank, level staking.

Since this system only runs up to the end of March I’ll do a final review then but obviously you won’t then be able to use the system again until October this year, when the next National Hunt Season starts.

Racing Dossier

Just before Christmas, Michael Wilding released some free racing ratings software. Today he has just released a free system that can be used with this software which made 171 points profit in 2012.

So far in 2013 it’s already made 15 points profit. And this is level staking one point per selection.

Value Backing

I thought it time for an update on the Value Backing service.

To remind you, this service targets selections that are considered to be priced above their likely chances of winning.

This is not a bet a day service. You are only sent bets that have real value available, but you can expect big priced winners.

There will be more bets when there is quality racing available as one is then betting on better class horses.

Selections arrive by email before 11:00 am each day and are also posted in the members area.

A 50 point bank is recommended. With each selection the suggested staking is also advised along with the current price available with a “best odds guaranteed” bookmaker in the event that the price drifts (unlikely). The vast majority of stakes are 1 point win, 1/2 pt ew, 1pt ew and very occasionally 2pts win. Losing runs are to be expected as the average prices are around the 5/1 to 20/1 mark but overtime the results have shown a healthy return on investment.

Carl Nicholson has a degree in maths and computer science from Harvard University. He got his early racing experience working as an understudy to a professional race reader for the Daily Racing Form during the holidays covering numerous race tracks in the USA.

In 2005 Carl developed his own Neural Network system to analyze horse racing. Since then he has used his skills and knowledge as a race reader along with his computer science skills to make a professional living from horse racing back in the UK.

Carl reckons that if you can discipline yourself to back only the right type of horse at the right time you will greatly improve your chance of succeeding at this difficult game.

We did a 90 day trial of the service from July to October during which there were 34 betting days and a profit of 9.78 points. The cost of the subscription meant that, using £10 stakes, we drew about even and so awarded the service a Neutral rating although saying that over a longer period, with the reduced subscription price, this could well be a profitable service.

I’ve continued to monitor this service and am pleased to report that it’s doing very well.

The results from Feb 21st until the end of December 2012, show a profit of 79.15 points, or £791.50 to £10 stakes. I would be more than happy with 50 points a year profit from any service or system.

Obviously, betting to £25 stakes would mean a profit of £1978.75, less the subscription costs which are £99.97 for six months so a very nice profit is made.

As predicted, this isn’t a short term system and you can’t expect to make profits every week, but if you take a six month sub it’s likely you’ll do well with this. It’s runs at a relaxed pace and I’ll certainly continue to use it. I’m happy to move this system to the Approved section and will update the results in three months time.

Stable Lays

Having made a note to myself that Cool Sky (Thurs 10 Jan, 14.35 Wolves) failed to qualify as a selection due to a non runner, I duly posted the result as a loss.  I’m not quite sure why I did that, but I have amended the bank, below.

I will bring the results up to date the first chance I get, hopefully by tomorrow lunchtime.

Adjustment to P/L: £11.50

Current P/L: £38.30

Current bank: £538.30

System Lays – Phantom Lays

Due to the real world again impinging on online activites, getting online for extended periods has been a bit of a problem lately.  I apologise if the consequent delay in posting this final review has inconvenienced anyone.

FINAL REVIEW

Shortly after beginning the trial of Phantom Lays it seemed clear that the results could be volatile and so I decided that a three month trial was essential.

Manual selections achieved a high of around  20 points profit, then slipped back.  The low was around 13 points down, but for much of the trial the movement was sideways.  The bank moved into a loss on 7 November and stayed there throughout the rest of the trial.

Just over a week after the trial started, my version of the automated approach (laying in the live market, rather than using BSP as recommended) showed an increase on the bank of almost 60 points.  Unfortunately, it then slipped back and kept slipping until it was 70% down.  At that point I decided that this – not officially recommended – approach left a lot to be desired and I abandoned it.

When I last looked, I could not find any official results for the automated approach that uses the recommended software and methodology – staking 5% of the bank at BSP.  So I took the results for the entire period of the trial (18 September to 19 December) and ran them through The Staking Machine.  I find this extremely useful  for testing the profitability of systems and services and it is also recommended by Phantom Lays as one of the two software applications required to automate their selections.  Using a bank of £1000 TSM showed a profit of just over £300.   After subscriptions at the full rate of £67 per month this would leave slightly over £100 profit.  However, the recommendation for automating the selections is a £300 bank.  On that basis TSM showed a profit after BF commission of £100, give or take a penny or two.  This produces a loss after subs of over £100.  Consequently, based on The Staking Machine’s figures, the automated approach has failed to make a profit for the three months’ trial period.

I have not checked to see how the service has performed since the end of the trial, however my recommendation can only be based on the trial period itself.  Consequently, in view of the manual bank spending much of its time moving sideways and the trial showing a loss before subscriptions for this approach, and a loss after subs for the automated approach, I have no choice but to award this a Failed.

Race Ratings Pro

One evening last month, while most people were sat with their feet up watching TV, Betfan hosted a live webinar with professional bettor Michael Wilding who revealed how he made his living with his personal betting techniques.

That webinar was recorded and you can watch the whole thing at your leisure below:
