Derek Nadin’s No 1 Lays

This is an expensive system, as such things go: £125 for outright purchase, or a tipping service for £40 per month. If you go for outright purchase, you get a 4 page manual and mean as this sounds, it contains all the information you need – and nothing else. No links to other sites, half of which don’t work, no suggestions how to handle your money, no advice on the psychology of betting, just the straight facts. There are 11 rules to apply and while this sounds heavy, in fact you can whip through them surprisingly easily. It helps that you don’t have to do it very often in a week because one of the first rules is that you can only bet on certain race meetings. You use the Racing Post website for your ponderings and you don’t need a subscription.

I have tested this system since the 23rd July, in which time I have had just seven betting days – these are days when one of the specified meetings shows up. From these, I had 17 horses which survived the 11 rules and became bets. They all lost. Now, 17 successful bets doesn’t constitute the end of our search for the ultimate betting system but the fact that this system has lost only 3 bets this year and only 7 in 2009 gives one a flicker of hope.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate lay systems; I hate the way they lure you into a false sense of security, then whip the rug from under your feet with a couple of well placed winners. However, I have a sneaking feeling that this system might just change my mind and for that reason I’m going to keep testing it for another month. After all, many a system considered successful doesn’t do better than 10 points a month and of course, profits depend on your level of staking. I’ll let you, dear reader, do the math.

The bare stats are:

P/L +16.15 pts
Strike Rate 100%
Average Odds 10.24
ROI 95% after comm.

Needless to say, this is Approved.

UPDATE 17th February

It’s been a poor run since the review with a profit of just +8.98 points. This was due to four high priced losing bets knocking the profit back quite a bit, but that’s racing.

Out of interest, Terry has made a small modification to the method which has been giving even better results. Stats recorded from July last year are:

117 selections of which 5 have lost -Yes, 5.
SR = 95.73%;
Average odds 10.77;
Pts gained 55.5.

OK, 55.5 pts in nearly 8 months isn’t enormous but at £100 stake, it’s not to be sneezed at. I know of several systems regarded as successful which return less than 10pts p.m.and in fact, I’ve come to realise that odds are so carefully set that this is probably as high as one can ever hope for.

The trick is to monitor all qualifying races with 6-15 runners instead of the 10-15 of the rules. Bet close to the off, from 30 seconds to the off if possible. A bot can do this for you.
