The Specialist is a new system developed by Anthony Gibson for Flat racing. Anthony originally produced The Protege for which we gave a positive review but that had a lot of selections. The Specialist is a reworking of the Protege and is much more selective, cutting down the trainer pool and sticking with the top class trainers and owners who consistently vie for the top honours every year. As with the protege, The Specialist is a backing system that aims for high priced winners, so we can expect some losing runs but hope that the high prices of the winners make the long term profits.

The selection method is simple and bets can be found the evening before races making it ideal for people that have to work during the day. For the purposes of this test I will keep it simple and back all selections to £100 level stakes at SP. No doubt more can be made at BSP but their advertising quotes SP’s so we’ll stick with that. There is some detail in the manual regarding staking methods, computer straight forecasts or exactas but you also have to add an extra filter for these making it even more selective. Losing runs are longer, in their 30’s, but with winners such as a CSF of 400/1 and a Tricast of 7000/1 then it may be something to interest die hard bettors.

The manual comes as a hard copy only but the flat season takes us right through to the beginning of November so it’s no biggie to wait a few days for it to come thorugh.
